Free agent pitcher Aroldis Chapman agreed to sign with the Boston Red Sox, he announced Tuesday on social media.
Chapman posted a photo of himself wearing a Red Sox hat on his Instagram and X accounts. Sources told MLB.com, ESPN and MassLive.com that his one-year deal with the Red Sox is worth $10.75 million. Advertisement
The left-handed flamethrower went 5-5 with a 3.79 ERA and logged 14 saves over 68 appearances last season for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Chapman split his 2023 season between the Texas Rangers and Kansas City Royals. The seven-time All-Star and two-time World Series winner has a 55-45 record, with 335 saves and a 2.63 ERA, over 796 appearances.
He started his career with the Cincinnati Reds and also played for the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs. Chapman earned Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year honors in 2019, when he posted a 2.21 ERA and earned 37 saves over 60 appearances for the Yankees.

The Red Sox went 81-81 and failed to make the playoffs for the third-consecutive season in 2024. Red Sox relievers posted the seventh-worst ERA (4.39) in baseball last season.
