The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder Alek Thomas through a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the MLB franchises announced Tuesday.

The Dodgers agreed to send outfield prospect Jose Requena to the Diamondbacks in the trade.

Thomas, 26, hit .181 with nine doubles, two home runs, 10 RBIs and four stolen bases through 28 appearances this season. The Diamondbacks designated Thomas for assignment Friday.

The second-round pick in the 2018 MLB Draft hit a career-high .249 with 19 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 38 RBIs and seven stolen bases over 143 appearances last season. He has a career .230 average through the first five seasons of his MLB career.

Thomas signed a one-year, $1.9 million contract with the Diamondbacks in January, avoiding arbitration.

The Dodgers signed Requena, who turned 17 in December, to a minor league contract in January. He has yet to make his professional debut. They designated outfielder Michael Siani for assignment to make room for Thomas on their 40-man roster.

The Dodgers (24-17) are on a three-game losing streak and sit in second place in the National League West, a half-game behind the division-leading San Diego Padre (24-16). They will host the fourth-place San Francisco Giants (17-24) at 10:10 p.m. EDT Tuesday in Los Angeles.

The Diamondbacks (20-20), who sit in third place, will face the Texas Rangers (19-22) in an interleague matchup at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday in Arlington, Texas.
